1873 Slavery is abolished in Puerto Rico



On March 22, 1873, the Spanish National Assembly finally abolished slavery in Puerto Rico. The owners were compensated with 35 million pesetas per slave, and the 30,000 plus emancipated slaves were required to continue working for three more years.

Leaders of the Puerto Rican abolitionist movement, including Segundo Ruiz Belvis,Ramon Emeterio Betances, José Julián Acosta, Francisco Mariano Quiñones, and Julio L. de Vizcarrondo, waged a long campaign to end slavery on the island in the face of wide spread rebellion.

Banjan disappears




Last year November I reported on 15 Year old Ram Bahadur Banjan was being hailed in Katmandu, Nepal as possibly a reincarnation of BUDDHA. His sacred place of meditation located in dense jungles was visited by hundreds of thousands of devotees.

Sadly the news today indicates that he has disappeared and the Police are investigating.
